This blog shows the photographic progress of my builds

Album: Phantom 1868

This kit was a much more challenging build.  Nearly everything had to be scratch built.  The plans were full sized (for the model) and very thorough.  It took me three months to complete.

I began by building the slipways.  This is used to hold the ship in place during construction.  When completed, the braces are knocked loose and the ship slides into the harbor.

You can't see it but holes are drilled in several of the crossbeams and a bit of thick wire is attached vertically.  These wires are then slipped into holes which are drilled into the hull and help hold the ship steady during construction.
